The Frisco Chamber of Commerce honored some of their biggest movers and shakers of 2009 in their 26th Annual Awards Celebration that took place on Jan. 29 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center.
The night was more like a real awards show this year than ever before. The 450 guests had dinner, live entertainment, awards were given out and there was even an after party.
The nominees for the 13 award categories were from submissions on the chamber Web site. Once the nominees were in place, the chamber hired a media company to go out and shoot a short video of all the business that were nominated. The videos were played at the awards celebration when the announcer said the nominees for each category. The videos, that were a new addition this year, gave the awards show a more realistic Oscar/Grammy feeling.
The entertainment for the evening was Frisco’s got Talent. The chamber held two audition days for the talent show in December and narrowed the contestants down to four acts. Those acts were the live entertainment for the awards celebration. The contestants were all vocal performers with a couple of them playing instruments. The winner was high school student, Madison Varela, who sang a Whitney Houston song.
Once the awards concluded there was an after party that included a DJ and casino games.
