The culture of yogurt can be found at Purple Kiwi

The Purple Kiwi, Frisco’s newest frozen yogurt shop, aims to be more than just a yogurt shop. Owner Zach Greenberg wants his store to be open and inviting, not long and narrow like other stores that he has seen.

Greenberg who has never worked in the yogurt industry before was looking to start a business after college that was satisfying both to him and the client he was serving. After exploring other options he settled on frozen yogurt.

“It’s a fun and healthy product,” he said. “If you are selling something fun you will always love coming to work.”

The Purple Kiwi opened its doors at the end of February with the goal to please people and establish a place to ‘hang out.’ Upon walking into the Purple Kiwi customers will instantly feel relaxed. The store has a purple shag rug in the entry way, green glass tiled walls, comfy benches lining the walls and huge flat screen hanging up. The whole room is open and follows a green and purple theme that is on the store’s logo.

Greenberg gives his dad credit with coming up with the name Purple Kiwi. His dad told him that once people heard the name they would never forget it. The store’s slogan “the culture of yogurt” is a clever play on words that also helps to make the yogurt shop memorable.

Purple Kiwi offers 12 flavors of yogurt daily that have the nutrition facts posted for each one so people know exactly what they are eating. A one ounce serving contains between 33 and 40 calories depending on the flavor and has zero Trans fat. Yogurt is a healthy alternative for a sweet snack. Of the 12 flavors offered daily; six are stable flavors that are available all the time and the other six change daily. There is always some kind of sherbet served too that is dairy-free to accommodate those that are lactose intolerant.  Along with the multiple flavors of yogurt is a wide array of topping choices. There are 30 toppings to choose from in all; 12 refrigerated toppings and 18 dry toppings. Refrigerated toppings include such things as kiwis, strawberries and cookie dough and dry toppings are such things as sprinkles, crushed Oreos and jelly beans. There is some kind of topping to fit everyone’s liking.

Greenberg believes that yogurt; despite its recent popularity, is not a fad and that is store will survive.

“I’m not part of the yogurt trend. I am part of the health trend,” he said.

Greenberg is thoroughly enjoying his new business and hopes one day to be able to expand to other location.

“I love coming to work,” he said. “It’s fun to be able to interact with nice people every day.

The Purple Kiwi is located at 3333 Preston Rd., suite 108. The store opens daily at noon. http://www.purplekiwiyogurt.com
