The Drillers defeated the RoughRiders 8-4 with an extra-inning grand slam by Darin Holcomb
The RoughRiders and Drillers battled into the 12th frame when Tulsa hit a walk-off grand slam to defeat Frisco 8-4 on Friday to take the three-game series. Craig Gentry had a game-best three hits as Frisco left a season-high 15 runners on base.
Tulsa jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run by Ryan Harvey. Frisco scored their first run in the fifth frame when Dustin Majewski hit an RBI double to score Gentry, but Tulsa answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo homer by Brad Corley to take the 3-1 advantage. Frisco took their first (and only) lead of the game with three runs in sixth inning when Steve Murphy, Guilder Rodriguez, and Gentry hit RBI singles to give Frisco the 4-3 lead. The Drillers tied the score at four in the eighth inning to send the game to extra frames. In the bottom of the 12th, Tulsa loaded the bases with two outs for Darin Holcomb, who connected for his 12th homer of the season.
Frisco starter Michael Kirkman allowed three runs on five hits over six frames, striking out two and walking three. Thomas Diamond (0-2) took the loss, allowing the grand slam to Holcomb in extra innings. Tulsa reliever Tommy Baumgardner (2-2) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win.
Frisco collected 14 hits, but only two went for extra bases with doubles from Majewski and Rodriguez. The RoughRiders were just 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left 15 runners on base. Gentry stole a pair of bases to give him a league-best 42 on the season.
The RoughRiders now travel to Springdale for a three-game series against NW Arkansas beginning Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
