Frisco suffered its first loss of the 2010 season on Saturday night, as
the Springfield Cardinals defeated the RoughRiders, 8-1, to avoid the
sweep.

Springfield erupted with a six-run fifth inning against reliever, Tanner
Roark, highlighted by a string of two-out hits. An RBI single by
right-fielder Jim Rapoport opened the flood gates and the Cardinals
batted around in the inning.  Mike Folli and Steven Hill were
responsible for the majority of the damage with back-to-back doubles
that plated runs. Roark gave up six runs, five of them earned, over 2.0
innings while taking the loss.

Right-hander Gary Daley started for Springfield and kept the 'Riders
hitters in check, giving up a run on four hits and a strikeout over five
innings. He picked up his first victory of the season.

Rangers pitching prospect Alexi Ogando made his debut for Frisco, not
allowing a hit over 2.2 innings and retiring the first eight batters he
faced. The 'Riders were unable to supply him with any run support,
however, as the only offense for the team came on an RBI ground out by
Joey Butler in the bottom of the first.

The RoughRiders begin a three-game series with the Arkansas Travelers on
Sunday afternoon. LHP Kasey Kiker takes the hill for Frisco, while LHP
Michael Anton goes for Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM.

Frisco picked up its second victory of the season on Friday night, as the RoughRiders

defeated Springfield, 4-2.

The 'Riders got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning when Jonathan

Greene was hit by Springfield starter,Nick Additon. He would score on a wild pitch after

Lawson singled him over to third base. Lawson would later score on a James Tomlin

sacrifice fly as Frisco took a 2-0 lead.

Lefty Richard Bleier made his debut for Frisco, getting a no-decision after a well-pitched

game. Allowing a two-run home run to Cardinals DH, Andrew Brown,in the 6th was his

only mistake over 5.2 innings. He gave up five hits and struck out three.

'Riders catcher Kevin Richardson broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth with a solo

home run to left that proved to be the difference in the game. James Tomlin added

another sacrifice fly in the 7th give Frisco an insurance run.

Highly touted Rangers prospect Tanner Scheppers was nearly perfect in his Double-A

debut, as he pitched two innings for the save, giving up one hit while striking out three.

The Frisco RoughRiders opened the 2010 season at Dr Pepper Ballpark on Thursday
night. Blake Beavan pitched six innings and only allowed one run as Frisco beat
Springfield, 2-1.

Frisco lead-off hitter James Tomlin scored the first run of the season for the
RoughRiders when Wes Bankston singled to left field with two outs in the bottom of
the third inning. The inning was kept alive for Frisco when right-fielder Joey
Butler reached base on an error by Springfield starter, Shaun Garceau.
Springfield’s catcher, Steven Hill, would tie the game in the top of the fourth
inning when he hit a home run off of the foul pole in left field. However, that was
the only offense the Cardinals could manufacture against Frisco’s big righty. The
next two batters, Andrew Brown and Daryl Jones, would both go down on strikes to end
the fourth.

With the game tied at one in the bottom of the fourth inning, Frisco added another
unearned run against Garceau. Kevin Richardson and Jonathan Greene flied out to
start the inning, but designated hitter Matt Lawson then reached on an error by the
Cardinals shortstop, Pete Kozma. ‘Riders shortstop Guilder Rodriguez followed with a
single to left and with men on first and second, Tomlin singled home Lawson with two
outs to give Frisco a 2-1 lead that would stand the rest of the game.

Left-hander Ben Snyder relieved Beavan in the top of the seventh and pitched an
effective 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and a walk while striking out two.
As well as the ‘Riders pitched on Thursday night, the Cardinals didn’t go away
quietly. With men on first and second in the top of the eighth inning, manager Steve
Buechele went to his bullpen once again. Another lefty, Zach Phillips, came in and
spelled Snyder.  Phillips then stopped Springfield’s rally, striking out Adron
Chambers and Colt Sedbrook to end the eighth.

In the ninth inning, Phillips was able to keep the Cardinals from tying the game,
getting a liner to second baseman Marcus Lemon to end the game and preserve Frisco’s
first win of the season, 2-1.

What a beautiful day it was to come watch the final Exhibition game for the Texas Rangers at the Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco. The sun was shining and the fans filled the stadium.   Mark Columbo of the Dallas Cowboys threw out the first pitch, which was a little outside.  Harrison, who got the fifth spot on the starting rotation got the start and allowed 5 runs in 5 innings,  before he was replaced by Chris Ray, who allowed 5 runs on 4 hits his and a walk.  Nelson Cruz, who recently injured his thumb returned going 2-2 with a double and hit his 20th RBI of this Spring Training.  Pitching still seems to be the lackluster going into Opening day.  The Rangers Starters are

  • RHP Scott Feldman
  • RHP Rich Harden
  • RHP Colby Lewis
  • LHP Matt Harrison
  • LHP CJ Wilson

The Rangers had a 4 run fourth inning against the Royals after Joaquin Arias hit a shot to center scoring Teagarden and Blanco.  Royals answer back by scoring 3 in the fifth and and 4 in the seventh and go on to win 10-7.   Rangers pitcher Neftali Feliz also made an appearwnce in the game in the eighth inning and gave up 2 hits in the inning before Francisco came out in the ninth.  Rangers had some real good at bats today, but nothing left the yard for either team.  They committed a lot of errors on the field, and the bullpen was out of sync.  Harrison had a good outing and should do well as the fifth starter. Also in attendance was Rangers new owner Chuck Greenberg who stated that sale of team should be done by week of April 19th.   Rangers do not have any game tomorrow, and will be getting ready for opening day Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Ballpark in Arlington.  Scott Feldman takes the mound for the 1:05 PM game.

Jonathan Greene collected all five RBI for Frisco as the RoughRiders defeated the Missions 5-1

The RoughRiders scored all their runs on two swings of the bat as Frisco defeated San Antonio 5-1 on Tuesday. Jonathan Greene hit two home runs, his first multi-homer game at the Double-A level, and collected a season-high five RBI. Frisco starter Martin Perez (1-1) earned his first win with the RoughRiders.

Frisco broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Chad Tracy singled, followed by a two-run home run by Greene to give Frisco the 2-0 lead. Frisco made it 5-0 in the eighth frame when Greene hit his second homer of the game, a three-run shot. The Missions plated a run in the ninth, but the Frisco bullpen held on for the 5-1 win.

Perez allowed four hits over five scoreless innings, striking out three and not walking a batter. Four Frisco relievers combined to pitch the final four frames to preserve the ‘Riders lead. San Antonio starter Cory Luebke (3-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out nine.

Greene and Tracy led the RoughRiders with two hits each as Greene had the only two extra-base hits for Frisco. Between Bakersfield and Frisco, Greene has three multi-homer games and 23 combined home runs in 2009.

The ‘Riders remain three games behind first place Midland as the RoughRiders and Missions will play game two of the series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
