Frisco homered twice in the first inning en route to the 7-2 victory in Corpus Christi on Monday
The RoughRiders avoided the sweep in Corpus Christi, defeating the Hooks 7-2 Monday night. Dustin Majewski and Adam Fox both homered in the first frame as Frisco never trailed in this contest. Frisco starter Michael Ballard (3-5) threw his first nine-inning complete game since June 1, 2008 as he struck out six.
The RoughRiders jumped out to an early lead in the first frame when Craig Gentry singled followed by a two-run home run by Dustin Majewski, his first of 2009. Three batters later, Adam Fox connected for a solo homer to give Frisco the 3-0 lead. The RoughRiders scored two more runs in the third inning when Gentry singled and scored on a ground out followed by a sacrifice fly by Johnny Whittleman to score Majewski. Frisco added a run in the sixth when Chris Gradoville hit an RBI single followed by their seventh run in the eighth frame when Fox tripled and scored on a Steve Murphy sacrifice fly. The Hooks found the scoreboard in the eighth inning when Drew Meyer hit a solo homer. Corpus Christi added another run in the ninth inning, but the comeback was short-lived as the RoughRiders defeated the Hooks 7-2.
Ballard allowed just two runs on six hits over nine innings, walking two and striking out six. Hooks’ starter Wilton Lopez (3-5) allowed six runs over six frames, allowing two homers. Ballard held Corpus Christi to 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Gentry, Majewski, Fox, and Mitch Moreland each collected a pair of hits as six different RoughRiders produced at least one RBI. For Majewski it was his first home run since August 27, 2008 and Fox has now hit more homers (9) in a single season since 2004.
The first-place RoughRiders now return to Dr Pepper Ballpark for a three-game homestand against second-place Midland RockHounds (1.5 GB), beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Frisco musters just two runs as the ‘Riders lose to the Hooks 11-2 and have now lost eight of the last 12 against Corpus Christi
Frisco’s bullpen allowed seven runs as the RoughRiders fell in Corpus Christi 11-2 Sunday night. Frisco starter Omar Poveda gave up four runs over 6.1 innings, losing his first game since May 20. Frisco was led by Adam Fox with three hits and Johnny Whittleman who had a double and run scored. The RoughRiders first-place lead in the South Division is down to 1.5 games.
Corpus Christi scored in the first inning for the third straight game to take an early 1-0 lead. Frisco tied the score at one in the third frame when Marcus Lemon singled and scored on a double-play. The Hooks regained the lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the inning, but Frisco tied the score again in the fourth inning when Whittleman doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to knot the game at two. That would be it for the Frisco scoring as the Hooks would score nine runs over the final four innings, including eight over the final two.
Poveda (8-4) allowed four runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings, walking three and striking out one. Three RoughRiders relievers combined to give up seven runs over 1.2 innings of work. Hooks’ starter Andy Van Hekken (4-4) earned the win, allowing just two runs over seven frames, striking out two and not walking a batter.
Of the Hooks’ 15 hits, six were doubles as the RoughRiders tied a season-high with four errors. Fox led the ‘Riders with three hits and Whittleman reached base three times, including a double and run scored. Renny Osuna had the only RBI for Frisco, despite snapping his 11-game hit streak.

Mitch Moreland collected four RBI on the night to lead Frisco over San Antonio, 7-3The RoughRiders evened the series on Thursday with a 7-3 victory over the Missions. Frisco starter Kasey Kiker (7-5) allowed only one hit in his five innings of work to earn his seventh win of the season. Frisco’s Mitch Moreland had two hits, including a three-run home run. Frisco pitching held San Antonio to just three hits.
San Antonio scored a run in the third frame on a wild pitch, but Frisco answered with a run in the bottom of the third when Marcus Lemon scored on an error. The RoughRiders broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning when Craig Gentry hit an RBI single followed by a three-run homer by Moreland to give Frisco the 5-1 advantage. The Missions plated two in the sixth frame on a two-run home run, but Frisco scored two more in the final innings on a Moreland RBI double and Gentry RBI triple.
Kiker is now 4-0 over his past six starts and has lowered his ERA on the season to 2.74, which is a team-best and among the top five in the Texas League. Pedro Strop earned his second save with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. San Antonio starter Matt Buschmann (0-1) took the loss for San Antonio.
Moreland led all batters with four RBI as Gentry also chipped-in with a pair of RBI. Dustin Majewski had a game-best four hits as Frisco pitching limited the Missions to just three hits on the night.
The RoughRiders now travel to Corpus Christi for a four-game series beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m.
