The RoughRiders’ bullpen allowed six runs, including five in the ninth inning to fall to the RockHounds 10-9 on Thursday while the Famous Chicken watched, rooting on the ‘Riders. Chad Tracy collected a pair of hits, including a double, triple, and a pair of RBI. Adam Fox hit his second homer in as many nights to pull the RoughRiders within one run in the bottom of the ninth. The RoughRiders set a new franchise-high with six errors on the night, including three by Marcus Lemon, which ties a franchise-high for a single player.
Midland scored a pair of runs in the first frame on a two-run double by Matthew Spencer to take the 2-0 advantage. Frisco answered with five runs in the second inning when Chris Gradoville hit an RBI single and Steve Murphy scored on a ground out to knot the game at two. Gradoville came around to score on a force out followed by a bases-clearing triple by Tracy to give Frisco the 5-2 lead. Midland scored a run in the third inning, but Frisco answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning when Adam Fox scored on an error and Steve Murphy came home on a Dustin Majewski sacrifice fly. For the second night in a row, the RockHounds chipped away at the RoughRiders’ lead with a run in the fifth and eight innings. However on Thursday, the Midland bats were able to overcome Frisco’s bullpen, scoring five runs in the ninth inning to take the lead over the RoughRiders 10-7 in comeback-fashion. The ‘Riders mounted a comeback of their own as Fox hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth, but Frisco fell a run short.
Beavan allowed four runs on seven hits over six frames, walking two with no strikeouts, but didn’t factor into the decision. Pedro Strop (3-5) blew the save and took the loss for Frisco, allowing four runs on one hit and three walks over one inning. Midland reliever Steve Sharpe (6-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings as Jared Lansford earned his fifth save on the season and second of the series.
Tracy, Murphy, and Guilder Rodriguez each had a pair of hits as Tracy’s double and triple were the only extra-base hits on the night for Frisco. Lemon and Tracy hit collected two RBI as Fox and Murphy each scored two runs. Marcus Lemon set a new season-high with three errors on the night, which ties the franchise-mark for errors in a game. The six team errors was the most every in Frisco history.
The RoughRiders now begin a seven game road trip, beginning with four games in San Antonio. Frisco holds a half game lead over the RockHounds for first place in the South Division.
