The Heritage Association of Frisco held their annual Art and media contest awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 11 inside the city council chambers. The 2010 theme for the contest was 'Once Upon a Time: Exploring our City's Historical Markers'.
"When deciding on this year’s theme, it was the intent of the Art and Multimedia Committee to create a theme that would hopefully encourage students to visit and see for themselves the rich heritage of the land, events, and its first families," the HAF website said.
There are 26 historical markers in Frisco that the students could choose from. There were a couple of historical markers that were very popular among the students including the Frisco Water Tower
"It's really neat that you went out and were inspired by these markers," event chair Marla Fields told the students at the ceremony.
This year had a record number of entries with 650. The contest was open to children in grades kindergarten through twelfth. There was a winner chosen from each school and more than 50 winners were chosen in all. The entries were judged by a panel of judges who were highly qualified. The judges were Art Professor Eliene Carver, Visual Arts Guild Member Georgi Still, Film and Video Editor Chuck Venable, Heritage Member Judy Isbell and Historian and Writer Bob Warren. All of the judges were volunteers.
This year's awards ceremony and prizes were made possible by Richardson Bike Mart of Frisco and Babe's Chicken. The student's art will be on display at the Heritage Museum through the summer.
