Since February 14 Jersey Mike’s Subs has been doing their part to help wipe out cancer by donating a portion of their profits from every sub sale to the Wipe Out Kids Cancer organization (WOKC).
“It has been amazing,” said Ginger Adams, Programs and Events Director for WOKC. “What we have found is it has given us so much positive exposure.”
Adams said the organization has been around for 30 years but since the campaign started people have really become aware of the organization and what it does. There has also been an influx of volunteer inquiries in the last month.
Jersey Mike’s, with 11 DFW area locations, has donated 25 cents from every regular sub and 50 cents for every giant sub since the campaign kicked off in February. To finish up the event with a bang Jersey Mike’s is hosting a Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer day March 12 at all Jersey Mike’s locations. For the donation of $1 customers will receive a regular sub.
Adams said all the money raised with be used for several things. One of the things that money will go towards is continued funding on a research project at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas on medulloblastoma, a cancer that has a low cure rate in children. Other funding will be used for ‘buddy bags’. According to the WOKC Web site “In 2008, WOKC launched the ‘Buddy Bags’ program to provide a bag full of hospital stay necessities to each child admitted to Children’s for cancer treatment. The idea is to help the families struggling to understand their child’s diagnosis and treatment by easing the transition from home to hospital.” Lastly the donated funds will be used to help out with the Ambassador program which allows 18 children and their families to have special events each month.Adams won’t know how much money was raised in all until after the finale March 12 but everyone is encouraged to eat at Jersey Mike’s on Friday.
