Needing a lunch pal for an upcoming day? Why not have lunch with Burton Gilliam, Congressman Ralph Hall, Nastia Liukin, Nancy Lieberman or even Mayor Maher Maso…all of these people are just a click away on the biddingforgood.com.

The Rotary Club of Frisco’s latest fundraising project is an online auction for lunch with a celebrity.

The club wanted to do their part to help the earthquake victims in Haiti. The district governor, Dave McSpadden, suggested shelter boxes as a way to help.  The Frisco club took the suggestion and ran with it. When the quake first happened they opened their pockets and collected $1,793 from members and the club matched that. The $4,000 was used to buy shelter boxes. That wasn’t big enough for them and the idea of lunch with a celebrity was born.

Jon Lineberger, President of the Rotary Club of Frisco, said he called the mayor to see what he thought and “it just snowballed from there.”

The club sent out requests for celebrity volunteers.

City of Frisco Mayor Maher Maso is one of the celebrities up for auction.

“It’s for a great cause,” he said. “I view my position as mayor as an opportunity to help the community in any way I can.”

The auction has 19 celebrities to pick from including council members and FC Dallas soccer player Heath Pearce.

“People who responded said absolutely they would help,” Lineberger said.

The auction is being held online in hopes of attracting people other than Frisco residents.

“I hope this can get some national attention,” Lineberger said.

The starting bids for the celebrities are $150 but their values range between $3,000 and $20,000.

Lineberger hopes to raise $24,000 or enough money to buy 24 shelter boxes. The shelter boxes are from shelterboxesusa.org. The boxes contain such things as a 10 person tent, sleeping bags/mats, water purification tablets, collapsible water storage containers, rope, ponchos, stove, tool kit and other useful items.

Bids will be taken Feb. 4-Feb. 11. Once the bidding has concluded the Rotary will contact the winning bidders and pass along the celebrity’s information. It will be up to the winner to set up a lunch that works for both parties and of course they need to be prepared to pick up the tab.

Lineberger said he wouldn’t have been able to put this event together without the help Rotary members Nicole Krasa and Ken Pardue.

The bidding opens Feb.4 and bids can be placed at www.biddingforgood.com/friscotxrotarywww.biddingforgood.com/friscotxrotary
