Keratosis Pilaris

  • PDF

Have you noticed “rough bumps” on your upper arms, thighs, or cheeks?  If so you might be able to thank your parents for these.  Keratosis pilaris, a condition which favors these areas, is typically described as “rough bumps” that have been present since youth.  Although not a harmful condition, these “bumps” are often annoying to the patient causing him or her to seek treatment. Although there is not a permanent cure for the condition, there are several treatments that can help improve it.

Regular use of either an over-the-counter or prescriptive moisturizer, especially after bathing, can help improve both the texture and appearance of these “bumps”. Microdermabrasion, a procedure involving the use of fine crystals under pressure, can also temporarily improve this condition.  Finally, as with many skin conditions, a “tincture of time” also helps as the condition typically improves with age.

Slipped Disc

  • PDF

What is a “Slipped Disc”?

The intervertebral (between the vertebrae) disc is a special type of cartilage between the bones of your spinal column. Each one creates the separation between spinal bones essential so pairs of nerves can exit your spine. But discs can't slip!

A disc can’t slip. But it can wedge, bulge, protrude and herniate. Chiropractic care can help.

The most serious disc problem is a prolapsed disc in which the soft center ruptures and leaks.

Space for Nerves

The disc is a special cartilage between the bones of your spinal column. It attaches to the vertebra above and below it. This creates the separation between spinal bones so pairs of nerves can exit the spine.

Turning and Bending

Each spinal disc has a jelly-like “ball bearing” core that is contained by bands of fibrous tissue. Healthy discs give you flexibility for normal turning and bending. Improper lifting slips, falls and car accidents can cause the core to shift:

Herniation - disc wedging narrows nerve openings. Obvious symptoms may not be present.

Protrusion - like a blister, the disc bulges where it is the weakest, causing nerve pressure.

Prolapse - with the cushioning and separating compromised by rupture, movement is painful.

Chiropractic First

Chiropractic has been a natural solution helping millions with a variety of disc problems.

Frequently Asked Questions??

How does Chiropractic help disc problems?

The purpose of Chiropractic care is to locate and correct areas of the spine interfering with the proper nervous system control of your body. Because the intervertebral discs are so close to the spinal cord and nerve roots, disc involvement is quite common in Chiropractic cases. Chiropractic adjustments help restore proper motion and position of malfunctioning spinal bones, reducing nervous system involvement. If caught before permanent damage, disc tissue often returns to a more normal size and shape by restoring proper motion and position of affected spinal joints.

Aren't disc problems simply the normal aging process?

No. However, many disc problems are the result of years of neglect. Many spinal problems are nonsymptomatic until the advanced stages of degeneration. There are many cases of elderly patients who have maintained their spine throughout their lives who enjoy excellent spinal health and function.

I didn’t do anything so how can a disc be involved?

This is a common refrain. Because our bodies are unusually adaptive, we can often accommodate a variety of stresses for years. Finally, like the “straw that broke the camel’s back,” we turn or bend funny and suddenly our spine succumbs to the accumulation of stress.

Azure Med Spa announces the nationally acclaimed ZERONA® laser for non-invasive body contouring!

Have you ever wanted to lose a few inches? There is an exciting new laser which offers a non-invasive way to contour and slim your body! ZERONA® laserZERONA® laser has recently been FDA approved for reducing the circumference of hips, waist and thighs and is the first non-invasive device to receive this approval.

In as little as 2-3 weeks, you can expect to lose an average of 3.64 to 9 inches from your hips, waist and thighs. ZERONA® laser uses low level laser technology to essentially drain the fat cell allowing the emulsified fat to release into the spaces between the fat cells. Your body will then eliminate this fat through normal detoxification processes. This is a cold laser and therefore no heat is generated. The laser is applied externally over the areas being treated and penetrates through the skin into the fat cells without affecting the skin or underlying tissues. There is absolutely no pain or discomfort involved.

The treatment regimen is three times weekly for at least two weeks and is generally done every other day. You will simply relax for 40 minutes total (20 minutes each on front and back) while the laser does its work. You will be able to return to normal activities immediately with no side effects. It is recommended that caffeine and alcohol be avoided completely during the treatment regimen. Exercising at least 30 minutes daily (walking is sufficient) is important as well to aid the lymphatic system in removing the stored fat. We also provide a supplement which helps with detoxification and recommend drinking two liters of water daily.

While the results may not be as dramatic as liposuction, ZERONA® laser provides a non-surgical approach to obtain significant inch loss with no downtime. Maintenance of a healthy lifestyle can ensure long term results. If you are looking for a painless and simple way to lose those extra inches, ZERONA® is for you!

This incredible body contouring treatment is available at Azure Med Spa in Frisco, TX. To learn more about the ZERONA® laser visit www.AzureMedSpaStonebriar.comwww.AzureMedSpaStonebriar.com
