Heart failure costs an estimated $30 billion dollars a year to manage for the nearly 5 million Americans who have this chronic condition.

Doctor Faiez Zannad, a researcher from Henri Poincare University of Nancy in France, presented medical findings from a recent study at the American Heart Association meeting on Sunday.  Patients with mild heart failure taking Pfizer's drug Inspra along with standard treatment were shown to be 37 percent less likely to be hospitalized for heart failure or die as compared to those patients receiving only the standard drug treatment regimen.  Pfizer's drug Inspra is currently approved for patients that have experienced a heart attack and have heart failure.

Researchers stated in Sunday's meeting that the finding could greatly expand the use of such drugs in healthier heart patients.

Prosper Family Dentist serving McKinney, Celina, Aubrey & North Frisco too!

Families want a dentist that is compassionate and willing to take the time to listen to their individual concerns and questions involving their complete dental health. After interviewing several dentists throughout both Collin County and Denton County, it was apparent that finding a good dentist that is thorough and truly cares about his patients was a daunting task indeed. Finally I met Doctor Travis Campbell who opened his new practice, 380 Family Dentistry, in Prosper, TX in 2009 and realized that Dr. Campbell is one of only a handful of doctors that genuinely believes that taking the time to educate all of his patients is the cornerstone to establishing trusting relationships and promotes optimum dental care. So needless to say I wasn’t surprised when I looked up his website on Google, to learn about the dental services that he specializes in, that his slogan is ‘GOING THE EXTRA MILE for your family’s smile.’

PATIENT EDUCATION

380 Family Dentistry is for people of all ages, from 12 months old to senior citizens. "As a dentist, I try to focus on prevention and educating patients so that they have fewer dental problems during their lifetime. A perfect example would be an expectant mother. During pregnancy the baby robs the mother’s nutrients; therefore expectant mothers tend to have more dental issues. Proper prevention can be the difference between no problems and having multiple cavities or even losing teeth during her pregnancy." says Doctor Campbell. Dr. Campbell respects his patients’ time and therefore has his staff schedule appointments to ensure that he is able to give each patient the undivided attention they deserve on their visit.

EXCELLENT CARE. COMPASSIONATE TOUCH.

Doctor Campbell offers general dentistry from cleaning, fillings, extractions, crowns, bridges, dentures, root canals, etc. 380 Family Dentistry features cutting-edge technology in cosmetic dentistry that includes Invisalign braces, Lumineers, Sapphire in-office whitening, home whitening kits, nitrous (laughing gas) sedation and oral conscious sedation. What’s even more important to know about Doctor Campbell is that his goal is to create a friendly, comfortable atmosphere where his patients enjoy coming to the dentist, just like he did when he was growing up. That vision is apparent in everything that he does and what a patient will experience from the caring staff that he carefully has chosen for 380 Family Dentistry!

CONVENIENT HOURS

Doctor Campbell understands the hectic work hours that families are trying to juggle to schedule their families’ dental appointments; therefore he conveniently offers extended hours Thursday nights and is also open on Saturdays. 380 Family Dentistry is located at 2111 E. University Drive (Hwy 380), Suite 20, Prosper, TX 75078. Call and talk to his friendly staff at (972)346-9998 or visit the website at www.380Dental.comwww.380Dental.com

Basal Cell Carcinoma

  • PDF

As we get older a new “bump” is not an uncommon experience. However, not all bumps are just “bumps,” but can possibly be a sign of something more significant including skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common of skin cancers and although not typically life threatening, these skin cancers can be very destructive locally and require extensive surgical treatment if not attended to promptly.

Basal cell carcinoma can take on many appearances, but typically appears as a shiny, translucent, “bump” on a sun-exposed region of skin. Over time, the” bump” may become larger and at times may ulcerate and bleed.  Many basal cell carcinomas are described by patients as “sores that won’t completely heal.”

Basal cell carcinoma typically occurs in the older population, but can be seen at younger ages. These younger individuals usually are fair skinned with a history of receiving significant amounts of ultraviolet light from either the sun or tanning booths.

The treatment of basal cell carcinoma may vary depending on its location, size, the overall health of the patient, and various findings seen by the pathologist who examines the cancer under a microscope.  Surgical removal is the most common treatment and typically is performed on an out-patient basis.

We all get a new “bump” or two as we get older and when we do it is probably best to have those “bumps” evaluated by a health care provider just to make sure that they are simply “bumps” on the highway we call life.

If you would like someone to look at a bump you find to be suspicious, please call Dr. Burns or one of the other doctors in our Frisco Dermatologist Directory

Probiotics - Whats the Buzz About These Bacteria

  • PDF

Antibiotics are drugs that fight bacteria that cause illnesses such as pneumonia and meningitis. By now, we all know that antibiotics have little effect on illnesses caused by viruses, such as colds or the flu. Not ALL bacteria are bad. Your intestinal tract is home to hundreds of helpful bacteria that aid digestion.

But in our haste to kill germs (thinking that by doing so we’ll produce health), we often overlook the good bacteria.

Not all bacteria in the body are bad. In fact, without the good bacteria, digestion and other bodily functions would be seriously compromised. Unfortunately, when people take antibiotics it kills the good with the bad. That’s when it’s especially helpful to be mindful of probiotics.

The word probiotics means “for life,” and they are the beneficial or “good bacteria” that can help promote health.

Probiotics support the body’s natural immune functioning and help digest the food we eat. In fact, the gastrointestinal tract is home to more than 400 different types of bacteria, acidophilus being the most familiar. Probiotics also help to keep the level of harmful bacteria in check.

A large percentage of probiotics comes from dairy products that contain lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, such as yogurt. Probiotics are also available in supplement form. Currently there are studies being conducted to assess the effectiveness of probiotics in treating many types of conditions, including Crohn’s Disease, lactose intolerance, high cholesterol, eczema, vaginal and urinary tract infections and the prevention of respiratory infections in children.

If you’d like to know more about probiotics, just ask on your next visit to the office. We’d be happy to discuss them with you.

In America today, seven out of ten people are looking for an easy, proven solution for weight lossweight loss. Our health costs are soaring because of obesity, heart conditions and cancer and the majority of people report they are experiencing some degree of insomnia. Continued health concerns in the Plano and Dallas area like depression, weight loss, insomnia, stress relief and pain management can be minimized and eliminated without the use of prescription drugs. Hypnotherapy has come back into the spotlight in DallasDallas for natural alternatives for patients concerned about harmful side effects of prescription medicines and over-the-counter drugs. The success rate has soared to over 90% for patients participating in hypnotherapy and cold laser treatment.

"This has, without a doubt, been one of the more positive experiences in my life. Not only do I see my goal weight in sight, but I have the tools to acheve it and maintain it. Most importantly, I have regained my positive outlook, and really like myself again."

-Barbara Well (2011)

Hypnosis is not new. It was accepted by the American Medical Association before 1960. It has recently become more popular due to television programs like the Mentalist and Complementary Physicians like Dr. Oz who promotes wellness and prevention. Decades ago, we've proved if we change the way we feel about something, it is changed in your mind and in your behavior. Hypnosis does just that.

With new combined treatments like hypnosishypnosis; cold laser therapy and supplements, the old myths and concerns still arise from curious patients.

Common concerns are answered directly by Jhon Whitaker CHt DCH PhDJhon Whitaker CHt DCH PhD, owner of Metroplex Hypnosis and Cold Laser TherapyMetroplex Hypnosis and Cold Laser Therapy;

Do I ever lose control of my mind or will?

Absolutely not, You are always in control. You enter the REM (rapid eye movement) level of consciousness, just before you slip into sleep. You can hear everything that is going on, many people do not remember much, so it is recorded for you. You can then listen to it while you sleep and make permanent change while you are in REM.

Can I get stuck in HypnosisHypnosis?

No! You can come out of Trance State anytime you wish. Most people enjoy the profound relaxation so much, they choose to remain in Hypnosis as long as possible. The worst case scenario is you could drift into a deep sleep, from which you would waken and feel rested.

Am I a candidate for Hypnotherapy?

You must be willing to change. Although everyone is capable of being hypnotized, strong willed individuals respond best to hypnosis. Humans are habitual, each day you wake up and brush your teeth, you automatically follow a pattern. That is you subconscious mind at work. You can easily train your subconscious mind can be trained to make the changes you need in your life.
