On Feb. 19 the City of Frisco Police Department sent out a press release that stated that someone was sending out fraudulent checks bearing the City of Frisco logo.
At that time the police department knew of four checks that people had reported receiving. Sergeant Adam Henderson, Public Information Officer for the Frisco Police Department, said that an investigation was launched at that time. The use of the City of Frisco logo, routing and account number that appears on the checks is ID Theft and carries a felony charge.
Now a week later, Henderson has confirmed that there are nine counterfeit checks that the police department is aware of.
“We have a few leads to go off of,” he said. “The investigation will be continuing until all leads are exhausted, which in these types of cases may be a while.”The checks have not been distributed locally.“It’s spread throughout the country from Minnesota to Florida and out to the west coast,” Henderson said. “So far, no one location is hit more than another.”Police are still advising anyone who receives a ‘suspicious’ check from the ‘City of Frisco’ to contact their local law enforcement agency.| < Prev | Next > |
