Sundays’ game held high hopes from Cowboys fans. With the Boys not having a playoff win in over 13 years, Tony Romo knew that he and his team had to deliver in the first round. After a demolishing win over the Philadelphia Eagles, a long time division rival, the Cowboys went into the second round with confidence and determination.
With Wade’s job on the line, Jason Garrett put together a score of offensive plays that were to insure a win over the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, Brett Favre was prepped and ready to play, arguably, one of his best post-season games in his long 19 year professional career.
The game opened up with a strong offensive move from Dallas, but was quickly over-run by the Minnesota defense. As the clock continued to tick, Minnesota swiftly made it known that they would not stand for the Dallas offense to push down the field. Most of the game was played in Cowboys territory, by both the Vikings and the Cowboys.
After a 47 yard field goal kick miss by Suisham, the Cowboys new kicking recruit, the Vikings from then on dominated the game. The Cowboys have struggled all year with field goal kicks. Nick Folk who has been on the team for a few years, struggled all year long, missing more than a dozen chip shot kicks. Towards the end of the season, Folk was replaced by Suisham, who was released from Washington just before he was picked up by Dallas. Regrettably, the replacement of Siusham over Folk did not prove to be a positive switch for the Cowboys.
By the fourth quarter with Minnesota carrying a two possession lead, Dallas appeared to have given up. Minnesota had shaken Romo’s confidence after six sacks and a few fumbled plays.
With four minutes left in regulation, Jerry Jones headed down to the sidelines. Unfortunately for Dallas fans, the game was already lost.
Minnesota will advance to the NFC Championship game next week against the New Orleans Saints, while the Cowboys will retire into yet another long off-season.
However, this season was not a disappointment, as the Dallas Cowboys did win their first playoff game in more than a decade. The win over Philadelphia gave Tony Romo his first career playoff win and hopefully gave Wade one more year to prove that he is the coach we all want him to be.
