A Day Labor Facility may be apart of Frisco’s future. If you have ever driven by the Café Depot Exxon station in downtown Frisco, you may have noticed several day laborers out loitering, waiting for a job.
At Thursdays’ Community Development Meeting the idea for a Downtown Labor Facility will be put on the table for discussion. Suburbs such as Plano, Allen, and Garland already have Day Labor Facilities put in place.
George Purefoy, the Frisco City Manager, told the CDC at it’s December meeting that there were several churches in the area that were willing to participate in a Day Labor Program, which would help the city avoid any legal matter. Many of the Day Laborers are illegal immigrants so if the city were to use tax dollars to build the building, there may be some legal issues to overcome.
If the City were to build the Center with Tax dollars they would be required to ask each patrons of their legal status, if one were to slip through the cracks, then the City would be in violation of federal law.
More discussion will take place at Thursdays meeting and we will have more to report at that time.
