New Antique Mall Open in Frisco

Frisco Mercantile, a new retail mall featuring antiques and collectibles and serving both the Frisco and McKinney communities, is open for business.  The mall is located in Frisco only a few miles from McKinney in the newly renovated Brookshire’s Grocery Store building at the corner of Preston Road and Main Street (Hwy 720) and across from the future Walmart.   Frisco Mercantile will soon house one hundred-fifty new retail businesses, of which fifty are now open and operating.

Owner Jay Harrison has been involved in the antique and collectible mall business for years.  He opened his first one, Knox Street Antique Mall on Knox Street in Dallas just outside Highland Park, in 1992.  From there, Mr. Harrison went on to open and run four more malls, Forestwood Antique Mall on Forest Lane in Dallas, Antiqueland in Plano, Rufe Snow Antique Mall in North Richland Hills, and Mission Road Antique Mall in Overland Park, Kansas, a Kansas City suburb.  Mr. Harrison eventually sold all the antique malls, but missed the business so much that now he is back with his first mall in years, Frisco Mercantile.

Mr. Harrison decided to locate his new mall in the Frisco/McKinney portion of the metroplex because “there are no other antique malls in the entire area.   Area designers, decorators and other shoppers just have to drive too far to find what they want,” he says.  Mr. Harrison firmly believes the area has a demand for this type of store and that Frisco Mercantile will serve the community well.   And area demographics also support such a business.  Both communities are rapidly growing, and according to sources at their respective city halls, Frisco population is now approximately 107,000, and McKinney population approximately 122,000.

Brigitte Kelly, a longtime interior designer and antiquer, is the mall’s manager.  She says that so far, enthusiasm is high, not only among shoppers, but also with existing and prospective tenants.  And Ms. Kelly, who is also in charge of leasing, says that even though the official “grand” opening of Frisco Mercantile is still months away, leasing is steady and brisk.  “If someone wants a reasonably-priced, attractive way to showcase and sell their antiques and collectibles, they need come see me as soon as possible.”

Please visit Frisco Mercantile at 8980 Preston Road; Frisco, Texas 75034.   For more information, call 972-712-7300 or go to the website, www.friscomercantile.com.
