Today, I had the privilege of honoring Palio’s Pizza for winning our “Best Pizzeria in Frisco,” contest as voted by our readers! I spent my afternoon chatting with one of the co-owner’s Preston Lancaster, as well as General Manager, Jimmy Cannon. Chad Roberts is also a co-owner but was not able to attend. Walking into Palio's the atmosphere was clean, fresh, and inviting and I immediately felt that this pizzeria was built and run with a sense of high quality and pride. This particular branch of Palio’s is located on Legacy just north of Warren. There is a second location located on the corner of 423 and El Dorado in Little Elm. Preston, Chad, and Jimmy have been friends from the time they were in elementary school. Once the trio reached college, they knew they wanted to work together and went for it. The life-long friendships certainly attribute to the welcoming atmosphere the patrons feel when dining at Palio’s.
There are many factors that contribute to Palio’s success. They are very involved in communicating with the guests that come in the restaurant. Guests are always greeted at their table by the manager, Jimmy Cannon, to ensure that a high quality standard is met. The guys believe that repeat customers are the cornerstone to their success. I enjoyed hearing about the various regular guests that visit the restaurant. Jimmy knew exactly who they were and what day and time they came in. Preston explains that the goal is to provide a “community” feel. After all, the Palio’s motto is, “We believe in Real”. To emphasize the point, he says at Palio’s, everything is real- from the dough being made daily, to fresh cut veggies, to the homemade balsamic vinegar.
I was curious if they served wine and beer. I saw wine glasses, but I didn’t see any wine. The guys explained to me that this is a B.Y.O.B. establishment. How fun is that? You can go for a pizza and bring in your own beer or wine!
The guys recently partnered up with Brian Luscher, owner of the Grape on lower Greenville, to create a “Chef Inspired Pizza”. The result was a very unique pie including: Italian salami, fresh basil, whole mozzarella, roma tomatoes, portabella mushrooms and spritzed with aged garlic infused olive oil. It has been another great addition to the gourmet style pizza on the Palio’s menu.
The guys are also very involved in giving back to the community. Palio’s has donated a large quanity of pizzas to Bledsoe and Corbell Elementary schools, participated the Frisco Family Services Annual Gala and providing food to the pantry volunteers for Frisco Family Services. Recently, we covered a story on Steve Damm and his fight against brain cancer. I learned today that the guys at Palio’s donated all of the pizzas for that event! Another charity they have participated in is the local Relay for Life. Everyone that came in wearing their Relay for Life t-shirt was given a free pizza.
Congratulations to Preston, Chad, and Jimmy for creating such a comfortable and neighborly atmosphere that is found at Palio’s! I would encourage everyone to check them out for lunch or dinner... or both!
