Over the last three years, the city of Frisco’s water or sewer fund has had a net loss, causing the city to have to dip into the water reserves. The reason being is because the North Texas Municipal Water District, where the city obtains its’ water, has continued to increase their rates.
Because they do continue to increase the rates, the city council has no choice, but to increase residents rates for water and sewage.
Recently Trash pick-up rates were increased, but that was only because landfill costs for the city had increased.
In these tough economic times, residents would hope that costs for such necessary services would decrease or at the least, not change, but with hard times hitting every industry, it’s nearly impossible for the city not to increase the rates.
Assistant City Manager, Nell Lange, has said that it is “not fiscally responsible to continue to draw down the reserves”. While residents want to disagree to keep the costs down, it’s hard to see it from any other perspective.
The city council tabled voting on this issue at this weeks meeting so that the minor details could be ironed out.
