FRISCO, TEXAS – January 4, 2011 – Will Sowell announced today that he will seek election to Frisco City Council in Place 3, the seat that has been officially vacated by Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Fallon upon his filing in December to run in the newly created Texas House of Representatives seat in eastern Denton County.  The vacancy in the Place 3 seat was confirmed at last night’s City Council meeting, when city staff and Council members discussed election plans to fill Place 3 as required by the Frisco city charter and the Texas Elections Code.

In a formal announcement issued today by his campaign, Sowell stated that his platform is based on conservative principles, leadership, and accountability, and that he expects to have a voting record similar to that of Pat Fallon’s in his term in Frisco Place 3.

Sowell is the Chief Operating Officer of a $1.5B public company that provides prepaid financial services.  He directly oversees a $200+ million budget and 1,500 employees, across diverse teams including technology, customer care, human resources, supply chain management, and project management.

A veteran of the US Marine Corps, Sowell has lived in Frisco with his wife and children since 2000, with an extensive list of community and civic activities including graduation from Frisco Citizens Fire Academy and City Hall 101; serving as president of Leadership Frisco Class 12; appointment to serve on the City’s Ad Hoc Committee on Ethics; and appointment to the City’s 2010 Charter Review Committee, of which he was elected chair.

“I believe that elected officials should be held accountable for the decisions they make,” Sowell said in his campaign announcement. “I believe in accountability, and I am running for Frisco City Council because I believe that Frisco’s long term interests are served by conservative values and a commitment to limited government, low tax rates, strong public safety, and long-term economic development.”

In December, Sowell announced his intent to explore a run for Frisco City Council via Facebook. Now that the campaign is official, “Will Sowell for Frisco City Council, Place 3” has a variety of activities planned for the month of January, including the launch of the official campaign website and a kickoff party.
