March is nationally recognized Youth Art Month and to celebrate Frisco ISD is recognizing their own students through two art shows.

The elementary art show was held on Feb. 25 and featured 1,200 works by students in grades kindergarten through sixth from all of the elementary schools in the district.

Curtsinger Elementary Art Teacher, Laverne Forwark, organized the joint art show for all of the elementary schools.

Just as in past years, the show was held at the Career and Technical Education Center but new this year is the separation of the elementary and secondary art shows. In the past the shows have been on the same time; with one taking place on the first floor and one taking place on the second floor.

“I am pretty exciting about splitting them (the art shows) up because it gives them the ‘wow’ factor,” Forwark said.

She said it not only allows each show to have more pieces but also gives the elementary age children a chance to shine.

According to Forwark the work for the show is selected by the art teachers at each of the schools. They look for creative and original work.

“It’s not always about neatness,” she said. “It’s about putting pride into your work.”

The show is set up so that each art teacher from each school has their own section of wall. The teachers come in prior to the show and set up their display and maps are given out to people entering the building so they can find the exhibit they are looking for.

The event is sponsored by the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco.

The Secondary Art show for will be from 6:30- 8 p.m. on Thursday March 4 at the CTE center.
