Missions Use Six Run Ninth to Defeat Riders

single quickly turned into a run after an errant pick-off attempt
allowing him to move to second and an Anthony Contreras sacrifice fly
moving Durango to third. He then crossed the plate on a Mike Baxter
ground-out putting the Missions on the scoreboard.
In the fourth, the Frisco offense retaliated with a Chad Tracy two-run
blast after a Justin Smoak single to give the RoughRiders the 2-1
advantage. For Tracy, it was his team-best sixth homer on the season.
Frisco held the lead until the ninth when San Antonio sent 11 hitters to
the plate and tallied six runs on five hits off of the Frisco bullpen.
Following a Craig Cooper walk, Cedric Hunter singled and Michael Collins
doubled, plating Cooper and Hunter. Keoni Ruth then singled into right,
scoring Collins. Jesus Lopez laced a double down the line, scoring Ruth
and driving Pedro Strop from the game in favor of Andrew Laughter. After
a Contreras single plating Jesus Lopez, the Missions had the 7-2
advantage and victory.
Starter Omar Poveda pitched seven innings scattering five hits and
giving up just one unearned run. Newcomer Pedro Strop (0-1) blew the
save, pitching just a 0.1 of an inning in relief and took the loss and
Laughter finished the top of the ninth.
For the 'Riders, Justin Smoak continued his hit-streak to nine games and
Guilder Rodriguez went 2-for-4 on the night.
The Missions and the 'Riders will meet for the final game of the four
game series tomorrow night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. RHP Jared Hyatt (0-0,
3.00) will take on RHP Caesar Carrillo (1-1, 6.08) for the Missions.
Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

Frisco Uses Big Inning in 10-6 Victory

The RoughRiders scored a season-best eight runs in the first frame en route
to the 10-6 victory Wednesday afternoon. Craig Gentry led the Frisco offense
with three RBI, including two on his first home run of 2009. Guillermo
Moscoso (2-1) earned his second win of the season. Steve Murphy also became
the franchise all-time leader in home runs with a solo shot in the seventh
to give him 35 career bombs.
The 'Riders didn't waste any time with eight runs in the first frame. Chad
Tracy hit an RBI single to put Frisco on top 1-0 as the next seven runs
would all score with two outs. With the bases loaded, Adam Fox hit a two-run
single followed by a two-run double by Chris Gradoville to extend Frisco's
lead to 5-0. After a walk, Gentry smacked his first homer of the season, a
three-run shot, to put the RoughRiders up 8-0. The Missions found the
scoreboard in the fourth with three runs and added a pair in the seventh to
cut into the RoughRiders lead at 9-5. Murphy hit his fourth homer of 2009 in
the seventh to make the score 10-5 in favor of the RoughRiders. With that
home run, Murphy became the RoughRiders all-time leader in home runs with 35
in his career.
Moscoso allowed one run on seven hits over five innings to earn the win. Kea
Kometani, Jose Diaz, and Pedro Strop, who was making his Frisco debut,
combined to preserve the victory. San Antonio starter Stephen Faris (2-4)
took the loss, lasting just one inning, giving up eight runs on just five
hits, and walking three.
Tracy had a team-best three hits on the afternoon as Murphy, Fox,
Gradoville, and Gentry all had at least two RBI. The 10 runs by Frisco
matches a season-high and set a new season-best at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Frisco and San Antonio will match up again Thursday night as Omar Poveda
(4-1, 3.00) will take the hill for the RoughRiders.
Missions Rough Up Riders'

The San Antonio bats took it to the Frisco pitchers in every way
possible connecting for five runs on 16 hits as the Missions took the
opening game of the four-game series, 5-2.
Adam Fox got the 'Riders on the scoreboard first, delivering a two run
blast into the left field seats plating catcher Manny Pina to bring the
score to 2-0. Pina later singled to continue his 16 game hit-streak and
26 game on base-streak. The Missions answered as speedy centerfielder
Luis Durango led of the third inning with a single into center and later
scored, along with Cedric Hunter and Mike Baxter, giving San Antonio the
3-2 advantage. Hunter and Baxter came across the plate again in the
fifth inning to make the score 5-2 and give the Missions the win.
Michael Schlact (0-1) took the loss in a four inning effort, allowing
five runs on 12 hits with two strikeouts. Ernesto Frieri improved to 2-1
on the year after allowing two runs on three hits. San Antonio used a
combined five pitchers in the win (Frieri, Mcdaid, DeMark, Hudgins,
Scribner).
The Frisco bullpen combination of lefty Beau Jones and Clayton Hamilton
both pitched scoreless innings with Jones pitching two and Hamilton
going for the final three frames.
The second game of this series will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.,
matching Guillermo Moscoso (1-1, 5.50) and Stephen Faris (2-3, 3.25).
'Riders Fall to Corpus Christi 10-0 as Frisco Bats Stay Quiet

10-0 and dropping the series. Frisco has now been shut out in back-to-back
games for the first time since June 5-6 of 2008 and haven't scored a run in
the past 18 innings. The Hooks scored in six different innings as they
chipped away at Frisco starter Kasey Kiker (1-2). The RoughRiders managed
double-digit hits, but they were all singles.
Corpus got on the board in the first frame thanks to an RBI-ground out by
Mark Ori. The Hooks made it 2-0 in the second inning on a sacrifice fly and
plated another run in the sixth on an RBI single by Josh Flores. The Hooks
would score seven more in the final three innings to push their lead to 10-0
as Corpus did extensive damage to Frisco's bullpen.
Kiker allowed two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out six and
walking three. Sergio Perez (3-1) earned the victory for Corpus, shutting
out the 'Riders for six innings and striking out six. Frisco's bullpen gave
up eight runs over four innings, walking five total batters.
Manny Pina extended his hitting streak to 15 consecutive games and reached
base streak to 25 contests with a 3-for-4 night to extend his Texas
League-best batting average to .475. Chad Tracy added a pair of singles as
Frisco failed to record an extra-base hit in the contest.
With the loss, the RoughRiders are now tied with Corpus Christi for second
place in the South Division with an 11-12 record, 4.5 games behind
division-leading Midland.
The RoughRiders now welcome the San Antonio Missions to Frisco for a
four-game series beginning Tuesday night at 7 p.m., matching up RHP Michael
Schlact (0-0, 6.00) and RHP Ernesto Frieri (1-1, 3.32).
Frisco Beats Corpus in Series Opener

The RoughRiders win third straight game, eclipse .500 for first time in 2009
The RoughRiders took the opening game against the Hooks, 9-3, for their first three-game win streak of 2009. Craig Gentry led all batters with three hits and Justin Smoak had a game-best three RBI and extended his reached base streak to 18 consecutive games. Frisco starter Omar Poveda (4-1) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as he won his league-leading fourth victory.
Corpus struck in the first as Drew Meyer reached on an error and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Locke. Frisco scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first frame on back-to-back RBI doubles by Chad Tracy and Steve Murphy to give the ‘Riders an early 2-1 advantage. Frisco put a three-spot up in the second inning, all with two outs, when Marcus Lemon came around to score on an RBI single by Jose Vallejo followed by a two-run double by Smoak to put Frisco up 5-1. The ‘Riders scored three more in the sixth frame, beginning with a sacrifice fly by Joe Gaetti, who made his Frisco debut Friday night. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Smoak recorded another RBI with a single to score Lemon, followed by a sacrifice fly by Tracy to score Gentry. The Hooks scored a pair of runs in the eighth frame on a two-run homer, but the Frisco bullpen closed the door for the win.
Poveda finished with seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out five and walking two. Clayton Hamilton pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Corpus’ Brad James (1-1) allowed eight runs on nine hits in his 5.1 innings of work.
Manny Pina also recorded a hit to extend his hit streak to 14 straight games and reached base streak to 24 consecutive contests. Gentry scored a season-high four runs as the RoughRiders get their record over .500 for the first time in 2009.
The RoughRiders and Hooks will match-up Saturday night with Frisco’s LHP Kasey Kiker (1-1, 2.86) matched up against Corpus’ RHP Brandon Backe (0-0, - ). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
