The 'Riders bats were stymied for the second day in a row as the club
fell to the Arkansas Travelers on Sunday afternoon, 4-1.
Arkansas came into Sunday's game with the worst staff ERA in the Texas
League, but it picked up its first win of the season as lefty Michael
Anton threw five innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking
out eight. The 'Riders lone run came on a solo home run by Joey Butler
in the fifth inning.
Kasey Kiker started for Frisco, giving up three runs over 4.2 innings,
including a solo home run to Travelers second baseman Ryan Mount in the
third. He allowed two hits and three walks while striking out seven
hitters. Arkansas scored its first run on Kiker in the bottom of the
first on a sacrifice fly by designated hitter, Paul McAnulty. Arkansas
would later tack on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The 'Riders best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the seventh,
as the team loaded the bases with no outs after Tomlin and Rodriguez
walked and Butler was hit by Arkansas reliever, Ryan Aldridge. But
Johnny Whittleman and Kevin Richardson struck out to end the inning.
Frisco stranded 11 runners on base.
The series resumes tomorrow as LHP Martin Perez (0-0, 0.00) makes his
2010 debut for Frisco (2-2) against Travelers RHP Ryan Brasier
(0-0,0.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM.

The past weekend the tornadoes continue to edge their way to the post season with strong goals and crashing the net. On Friday night the Tornadoes captain Scott Deur started it off with a power play on a pass from Ralf Freibergs and JD Howard. Axel Boyer of the Tornadoes also scored early in the first period to make it a 2-0 game, but later on in the second period Springfield scored to make it 2-1. The Tornadoes scored the next two goals from Nick Taurence to put the game away 4-1. Dan Sullivan stopped 35-36 goals in another impressive performance. On Saturday night, The Springfield Blues started the night scoring one in the first and another in the second. In the third period, after the Tornadoes pulled goalie Dan Sullivan in hopes of a comeback. They could only manage one goal on Ralfs Freibergs goal with ten minutes to go in the game. That was Freibergs first goal as a Tornado, but it wasn't enough as they they lost 3-1 and snapped their 4 game winning streak. Dan Sullivan stopped 29 of 32 in Saturdays loss. On Sunday the game went into its 3rd shootout in the past six games. Joe Adams scored the first goal for the Tornadoes, but Jack Prince scored the final goal in a sudden death overtime to make it a 2-1 win and their fifth win in six games. All against the Springfield Blues. The Tornadoes now have 55 points and a 25-23 record. The Tornadoes have already clinched a playoff spot, and will now take on the second place St. Bandits for a three game series this weekend. Its good they are balancing the work load and players are coming of no where and scoring goals. RoughRiders suffer first loss this season

Frisco suffered its first loss of the 2010 season on Saturday night, asthe Springfield Cardinals defeated the RoughRiders, 8-1, to avoid the
sweep.
Springfield erupted with a six-run fifth inning against reliever, Tanner
Roark, highlighted by a string of two-out hits. An RBI single by
right-fielder Jim Rapoport opened the flood gates and the Cardinals
batted around in the inning. Mike Folli and Steven Hill were
responsible for the majority of the damage with back-to-back doubles
that plated runs. Roark gave up six runs, five of them earned, over 2.0
innings while taking the loss.
Right-hander Gary Daley started for Springfield and kept the 'Riders
hitters in check, giving up a run on four hits and a strikeout over five
innings. He picked up his first victory of the season.
Rangers pitching prospect Alexi Ogando made his debut for Frisco, not
allowing a hit over 2.2 innings and retiring the first eight batters he
faced. The 'Riders were unable to supply him with any run support,
however, as the only offense for the team came on an RBI ground out by
Joey Butler in the bottom of the first.
The RoughRiders begin a three-game series with the Arkansas Travelers on
Sunday afternoon. LHP Kasey Kiker takes the hill for Frisco, while LHP
Michael Anton goes for Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM.

You could be seeing the Tornadoes in the playoffs really soon after this weekend. The Springfield Blues hold on to the final playoff spot in the division and going into this past series, the Tornadoes had a two point lead on them in the division standings. The Tornadoes began the series on Friday night with a shoot out victory, and the game also included a goal by newcomer Shane Sooth, who scored his first goal on the team to tie the the game at 3-3. Tornado goalie Dan Sullivan had another impressive night stopping all five Blues players from scoring in the shootout leaving Scott Deur the opportunity to score and end their losing streak. They played the Blues again on Saturday and Sunday and won in defensive battle. I cant say enough about goaltender Dan Sullivan. He is definitely NHL material. He stopped 100 of 107 shots in this series and will take this Tornado team far. Like I have always said as soon as the Tornadoes get more defensive help they will reach that plateau of success and be top of their division. They will be Playing Springfield again for another three game series this weekend in hopes to secure playoff spot.
FC Dallas return home bruised but not broken
Richard Davis
The FC Dallas squad limps back to Frisco with a mixed bag of results from their South American trip.
The good news: The offensive attack was cohesive, and they managed to score three goals a game.
The bad: Well, the bad is they gave up four goals a game. To compound their defenses problems, Defender Marcelo Saragosa will have to undergo another surgery on his right knee. It’s doubtful that he has even fully recovered from his last to surgery to repair his medial meniscus.
As Steve Hunt / reported earlier in the week, Andre Rocha showed up to camp in less than stellar shape. Head coach Schellas Hyndman is none too pleased but offered optimism about Rocha’s ability to get into shape fast.
The competition they faced in Brazil is a tick above, or at least on par, with what they’ll be facing in the United States, and it is very encouraging for Dallas that they could stay in the games with the international squads.
David Ferreira is due to join his teammates in Frisco Friday, if all goes well with his Visa. Anyone who’s counted on a visa will know that problems and holdups occur often.
FC Dallas has one more tune up before the season opener. They take on Club Atletico Paranaense Saturday 03/14 - 7:30 p.m
