Top Ten Rangers Prospects 2011

  • PDF

After advancing to the World Series in 2010 and losing, the Texas Rangers are going to go back to Frisco and create some more talent.  The Texas Rangers have one of the, if not the best young talent in their minor league camps in Frisco, and Oklahoma City.  Below are the top 10 prospects that could be in a Rangers uniform come this Spring.

Former Top Prospect Elvis Andrus

  1. Martin Perez, lhp
  2. Jurickson Profar, ss
  3. Tanner Scheppers, rhp
  4. Robbie Erlin, lhp
  5. Engel Beltre, of
  6. Michael Kirkman, lhp
  7. Mike Olt, 3b
  8. Luis Sardinas, ss
  9. Jake Skole, of
  10. Miguel de los Santos, lhp

Of those 10, half of them are pitchers.  Tanner Scheppers had a 5.48 ERA last year at AAA Oklahoma City.  He also had 71 strikeouts, and will provide a young arm to this Rangers rotation.   Martin Perez had a 5.96 ERA last season with AA Frisco, and 101 strike outs.  The Rangers need to stop paying these washed up pitchers and utilize their farm camp if they want to get back to the World Series.  In 2011 youth is the key to winning.

Frisco’s own Texas Tornado hockey team closed out 2010 with a bang. Their 4-2 victory over the Wichita Falls Wildcats provided a great way to spend New Year’s Eve for the team and their fans and also brought their season record to 20-7-5. Ralfs Freibergs recorded three assists and Jack Prince had two of the four goals to help put the team in the lead. Freibergs was named as the “most outstanding defenseman” of the IIHF Division I World Junior Championships in December, and he was also named the South Division Player of the Week.

For more holiday excitement, the Tornados along with Park Place Dealerships continued the New Year festivities following the game with an open rink to skate with the team, a buffet style dinner, and a countdown to ring in the New Year. The special New Year’s Eve jerseys that the players wore for the game are now being auctioned off as well.

The Tornado’s have a week and half off before they take on the Fresno Monsters on January 11, their first game of the New Year.

Friday Night Lights in Frisco

  • PDF

It is a well known fact that football in Texas is a big deal. More than any other state in the country, Texas takes high school football seriously.

The game has grown into more than a game for many. Players grow, learn, and mature through their experiences on the field and the goals that they work towards as a team.

High school football in Texas is such a big deal that Hollywood has even made movies and TV shows about it. For example, the 1990’s hit “Varsity Blues”, “Friday Night Lights” the movie, and “Friday Night Lights” the TV show, which is filmed in Austin.

It’s fascinating to watch a high school football player grow and mature from his days of playing in high school, then off to college, then even to the NFL. Matt Stafford from Highland Park High School is a prime example. He played all through high school for the Scots, then played all four years for Georgia, then was drafted and now starts for the Detroit Lions.

Frisco has its own share of talented athletes as well. In fact, so far this season Frisco has enjoyed a few victories over other schools in their division. The team from Wakeland beat Fort Worth Brewer by 36 points in their opener.

It’s an exciting time of the year when football starts. The stadium, the concessions, the fans, the cheering, and especially the lights.... it’s what makes football season such an enjoyable time of year.

Keep checking with RealFrisco.com for scores and high school football related news through out the season.

FC Dallas Home Opener Preview

  • PDF
FC Dallas will return home this Sunday to host Toronto for the back end of their series. FC Dallas started off winless in their first three games but managed toget the 1-1 draw against Toronto last Saturday, a game in which they scored their first point of the season. Dallas has never lost to Toronto at Pizza Hut Park, and they don’t plan on giving them the chance.  FC Dallas will also be without goal keeper Daria Sala for 4-6 weeks, due to surgery to repair his ailing left knee.  He had 3 saves in the opening loss to Chicago, and remains second place in club history for career shut outs behind Matt Jordan.   Ray Burse is the back up goalie in place of Sala and has been doing a great job in his absence, only allowing 4 goals, but the main issue is the offense needs to step up to give Burse support.  They have only scored 3 goals this season.  Pablo Richetti scored the goal in the game against Toronto and gave them their first point of the season, and his first MLS career goal.  Look for him to get the motivation he needs, and look for players like Eric Avila to have a strong home opener.   David Ferreira and Kenny Cooper will initiate the attack, and Dax Mccary will be in the midfield.   FC Dallas is resting in 8th place 9 points behind Chivas USA.  This is their worst start in club History, but scoring a point last week is opening the gate, so expect FC Dallas to come home to Pizza Hut Park and turn this season around.
