Nestled in the heart of downtown Frisco is the charming Blue Door Boutique (at 6975 Main Street). There’s been a renaissance of downtown Frisco as new businesses have opened this summer. However, the Blue Door Boutique has been a staple of downtown for the last seven years. Co-owned by longtime friends, Glenda McMichael and Joann Fritz, the boutique was a dream realized for both women. With combined experience that includes a marketing degree and work in childhood education, Glenda and Joann used their creative talents to bring their vision to life.
Upon walking in the front door–a very bright blue door indeed, you immediately feel the rustic vibe of the store. Antique styled wardrobe cabinets are open shelved and filled with chic, trendy t-shirts, fuzzy sweater vests as well as many denim pieces. During my visit with Glenda, I learned there was no specific tale behind painting the front door blue other than using vivid color to draw the eye to the store and create a shop name that’s easy to remember. The boutique has become one of my “go-to” spots for gift ideas. The boutique offers a selection of humorous greeting cards that definitely appeal to women. Wood trimmed glass display cases feature beautiful artisan styled jewelry pieces that include semi precious stones–perfect for year-round gift giving.
My eye quickly caught the hip bridal gift section in the back of the boutique. I spotted everything from bridal party t-shirts to fun “bride and groom” wooden table decor. In addition to wedding theme decor, the Blue Door has an eclectic variety of wine glass styles, party napkins and high quality soy candles.
As a long time observer of eye-catching store window displays, I’ve noticed some of the most creative displays I’ve ever seen are at the Blue Door Boutique. Their Halloween themed windows are especially fun, not too scary and make you want to run home and pull out your own decorations. Not surprising , their Christmas “window scenes” combine the traditional with a bit of “funk” style that’s in tune with the holiday spirit.
Sip, Shop, Rock and Stroll – September 26
Glenda and Joann are passionate Frisco business owners who want to keep shoppers coming back to the “heart of downtown” Frisco. They are proud members of the Frisco Downtown Merchants Association. Many businesses on Main Street will be participating in the upcoming “Sip, Shop, Rock and Stroll” event on Saturday, September 26 from 2-8p.m (restaurants open until 11pm). The shops and restaurants will offer “punch cards” to participants –who will get their card punched at each place they visit. Anyone who completely fills their punch card will be entered into a raffle for a grand prize valued at $500! Learn more about the “Rock and Stroll” event at RealFrisco.com. In the meantime, I recommend taking a stroll into the Blue Door Boutique to experience a colorful piece of the “heart of Frisco“.
