Hundreds of students walked out of their Frisco High classrooms today in support of a well loved principal, Sylvia Palacios. The walkout came because of recent news that Palacios was being moved to another school.
While Superintendent Jeremy Lyon told parents and students that the move was just part of a growing district many faculty and students believe the move is a punishment due to Palacios failing to discipline teachers at parents requests.
At the end of second period students gathered with banners saying “Save Sylvia” and began the 35 minute march to Frisco ISD administrative building where they chanted “Sylvia,” and “we want answers.”
The district was aware of the planned walk out and Frisco police helped block traffic and intersections to keep students safe.
No officials addressed the students who chanted and cheered their principal for 45 minutes before returning to school. The students have vowed to continue their support for their principal at the next Frisco ISD School Board meeting. That meeting is scheduled for June 22nd.
Palacio was recently honored by students at their Senior Day. Watch a video from the school’s media below.
