Josh Hamilton Joins RoughRiders for Recovery

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton is expected to begin a medical rehab assignment with the Frisco RoughRiders this weekend as he recovers from shoulder surgery. Hamilton is slated to join the RoughRiders on Saturday May 16 when the team hosts the Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston Astros) at 7:05 p.m. Hamilton’s rehab stint in Frisco is expected to continue into the middle of next week.

The Frisco RoughRiders media relations department will provide additional information about Hamilton’s media availability during his time in Frisco.

The 34-year-old Hamilton has spent the entire 2015 season on the 15-day disabled list as he continues to undergo rehab from right shoulder surgery on February 4. Hamilton’s AC joint was repaired during the surgery performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington. Hamilton was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations on April 27.

The 2010 American League Most Valuable Player began his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday and played in three games for the Express, going 2-for-9 with two runs batted in.

Hamilton appeared in two games with the RoughRiders in 2011 as a rehabber in which he went 2-for-7 with three runs scored and four RBI. He hit a two-run home run off Midland’s Shawn Haviland in an 8-7 Frisco victory.

In five seasons with Texas from 2008-12, Hamilton batted .305 with 142 home runs and 506 RBI in 647 games. He has the third highest slugging percentage (.549) and sixth best batting average in club history among players with at least 300 games while producing three seasons each of 30+ homers and 100+ RBI.

He was elected to start in the All-Star Game in all five seasons as a Ranger and won A.L. Silver Slugger Awards in 2008, 2010, and 2012. Overall, Hamilton has a .292 (1091-3739) average with 192 homers and 676 RBI in 977 major league games with the Reds (2007), Rangers (2008-12), and Angels (2013-14).
