Maine Crawls Past Frisco’s Texas Legends

The Texas Legends cut a 24-point deficit down to two in the fourth quarter but were unable to seal the comeback, falling to the Maine Red Claws 114-123.

Chris Babb posted 11 points in the first quarter as the Red Claws took off to a 39-17 lead.  The gap widened to 24 in the second before the Legends kicked into gear.  Brandon Young, Jarrid Famous and Dwight Powell added 10 points each as the Legends shot 63% and cut the deficit to 14 before halftime.

The Legends continued chipping away in the third as Dwight Powell and Mike James combined for 22 in a 33-25 push.  Texas cut Maine’s advantage to six heading into the final minutes and within seconds it was a two-point game.  The Red Claws hit 43% from outside and responded to each Texas effort to take over.  With 1:23 on the clock Eric Griffin knocked in two for the scoreboard to read 114-118, but Maine took a 5-0 run to seal their thirtieth victory of the season.

Powell led the Legends with 32 points, 9 rebounds while Mike James followed closely with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.  Jarrid Famous added the team’s only double-double of 20 points, 13 rebounds.

Omari Johnson came off the bench to lead the Red Claws with 26 points, 11 rebounds.  Romero Osby added 23 points, 10 rebounds and Tim Frazier rounded off the double-doubles with 13 points, 16 assists.

The Legends will hit the road Wednesday to take on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 7pm.  The game will be broadcast live on
