Purefoy Elementary School began a running club during the 2014-15 school year through the efforts of Angi Hunter, the Purefoy PTA Lifestyles Chair, and Derek Rodriguez, P.E. Coach.
Toward the end of the school year, students had the option to sign up for a 5K that would benefit the Love Is Louder Than Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to spread love by providing emotional and financial support to families battling cancer. The Foundation was founded by Frisco resident and Purefoy mom, Kelly Thomas, whose family has twice been impacted by cancer.
The 5K run raised a total of $4,500 that will directly impact approximately 15 families through the Foundation’s Wallet of Love program, which provides gift cards to gas stations, pharmacies, grocery stores and convenient restaurants to families affected by cancer.
Purefoy students and staff were honored to take part in the event.
