The Frisco RoughRiders battled for 12 innings but could not pull away as the Midland RockHounds won 3-2, sending the Riders to its sixth straight loss.
In the bottom of the 12th inning, a Anyelo Leclerc allowed a two out walk to Chad Pinder and one batter later Ryon Healy delivered his third hit of the game to send the RockHounds home a winner.
For the first time this series Midland took the initial lead in the bottom of the third inning when Matt Olsen collected his 21st RBI with a sacrifice fly to center putting the RockHounds ahead 1-0.
The Riders answered in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs. J.T. Wise hit a two out double to left and scored on a Jake Skole RBI single. Luis Mendez kept the inning alive with a hit to left and Nick Williams broke the 1-1 tie with a sacrifice fly of his own for his 13th RBI.
Jose Leclerc lasted 3 2/3 innings and for the second consecutive start, he left a Riders reliever in a bases loaded situation. Last week it was Kyle Lotzkar inducing a ground out and on Mondaynight Edwar Cabrera retired Chad Oberacker with a fly out to center field.
The RockHounds tied the game at two in the sixth inning when Matt Angle singled home Chad Pinder off Cabrera.
The Riders had at least one runner on base every inning until the eleventh against Midland pitching. In the sixth inning, Williams doubled after a two out walk to Mendez, but Tyler Pastornickylined out to center to end the threat. Frisco again had a chance to break the game open in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs. Nomar Mazara walked and both Jorge Alfaroand Wise followed with a a single, but Skole popped up on the infield. As a team they finished 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position leaving a total of 14 runners on base.
Cody Kendall allowed a one out single to Josh Whitaker in the seventh before walking the sixth and eighth place hitters to load the bases. Joe Mikulik opted to bring in Will Lamb with the bases loaded and it paid off. Angle grounded out to Drew Robinson to end the inning. The RockHounds failed to capitalize four different times throughout the game with the bases loaded, including twice in extras before Healey’s game winning hit.
The two teams will play the series finale on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m.
