Members of the Wakeland High School family participated in the annual Relay for Life of Frisco on May 29 at the Wakeland track.
It was the first time that Wakeland has had the privilege of hosting this charity event for the American Cancer Society. It was a night for the Frisco community to come together and remember those loved ones lost, along with supporting those who are battling this deadly disease.
The event started Friday evening at 6 p.m. and lasted until 1 a.m. on Saturday morning. More than 120 Wakeland staff and students spanning various sports teams, clubs and organizations helped play a small part in the grand total raised, which was over $55,000.
In all, it was a moving experience that ranged from laughter to tears throughout the night. The campus staff and students say they look forward to being a part of this event for many years to come. The Wakeland Wolverines raised more than $10,300, according to Coach Davis Tidwell.
